#RAWTHERAPEE LIGHTROOM FULL#
In darktable I can just hold z to show full window preview, press r to mark for deletion and right-arrow key to move on the next photo. I think there is still no shortcut to mark a photo for deletion ("move to trash"). The closest thing is the "inspect" side panel on the right which only takes half of the screen depending on how you split, and it zooms to 100% so you have to hover your mouse around to check. AFAIK there is still no way to quickly zoom into a picture to make it fill the whole window (the 'z' shortcut in darktable). It is also one of the first to support compressed RAFs (which darktable only gained support recently so it was unusable for my X-T2 for a long time).įile management still sucks as others noted. Rawtherapee has very good handling for X-trans files but it is quite slow at exporting (understandable due to more complicated demosaicing algorithm). Some random mumbling/rants from someone who have used Rawtherapee (and darktable) as the main editor for the past few years: I'm currently running Linux Mint on my laptop and Manjaro on my desktop. I'm in the final stages of transitioning away from Microsoft after they announced eol for W7 and failed to provide DX12 as an attempt at forcing upgrades. I use it mainly for drawing, but I've also used it for image editing.
Audacity is good for creating and editing sound files (if you need to do voice work). However, most of the time, the only thing I am doing is removing the audio from my files because urban noises (planes flying overhead, helicopters, trucks backing up, general traffic), ruin the nature I am filming anyway. The audio sync takes time to get used to. So what? After a while you get used to it.īlender is great. People criticize the UI, but at worst the UI is strange.
#RAWTHERAPEE LIGHTROOM HOW TO#
Most of the tutorials are examples of how to do something Photoshop does. There is an online tutorial for everything, just like blender. I assume the easiest thing to do is to try to take a good photograph to begin with. They can produce different results sometimes so why not? It costs me next to nothing in time to evaluate my options. I use RawTherapee mainly, but once in a while, I've tried DarkTable too.
#RAWTHERAPEE LIGHTROOM FREE#
It's a shame people do not realize how great these programs are but simply see they are free and assume they are not worth anything. There are a myriad of free and open source programs that benefit photographers interested in investing in learning how to use them. Free tools like Blender are really mature because enough people use them. Hopefully, we will get more participation on this! Look at the Video editing landscape. The developers have done their work, and now its time for us users to create presets etc., for the same. I guess now its the time people can start adopting it. Plugins, Presets etc., are created when people start using the software. That said, its really amazing what this can do, and its free and open source. If you are new to it, its easy to get overwhelmed This is same as previous version of lightroomīusy UI - Need a dumbo mode. The pp3 (Profile files) are plain text which means anybody can write apps to manipulate themīatch processing images is slower than lightroom (About 1/2X). Photographers can really help here as more adoption leads to better ecosystem Presets : Again, massive library in lightroom Maybe I am not trying enoughĬlarity : Again, have to look how to achieve the effect Sharpening and Local sharpening : Again, this is very good and at PARĬould not find comparable DeHaze. For most users (including Astro) it will be enough I would say its 90% of where lightroom is. Not hereĪuto Levels : Much more customizable than LRĬolor : Far richer than LR with stuff like Channel mixer built in Lightroom requires lots of hoop jumping to get rid of red cast in ~700nm IR images.
White Balance range : I can work with IR easily as the white balance range is simply very wide. I was simply blown away how much the tool has improved in the past two years. I picked up Rawtherapee (Among others) to try out. Slowly getting annoyed with the "Rent seeking" model of software, I decided to try some other paid and free stuff.
